Focus Group Discussion: Empowering Indonesia’s Skilled Migrant Workforce – A Pathway to Economic Growth

Migrant

As part of its economic pillar initiatives, the Indonesian Business Council (IBC) has launched a new study on Overseas Skilled Workers, aimed at supporting Indonesia’s 8% growth target by reducing unemployment and increasing foreign exchange inflows through remittances.

The study will follow a four-phase approach:

  1. Mapping challenges and defining archetypes of skilled migrant workers, comparing them with current market realities.
  2. Benchmarking Indonesia’s regulations against international best practices.
  3. Synthesizing findings to identify key lessons, assess supply and demand, and shape actionable policy recommendations.
  4. Disseminating results through publications, forums, reports, and policy briefs to guide national strategy.

Support from IBC members will be critical, particularly in aligning vocational training programs with global market needs. By engaging actively in this initiative, members can help reshape Indonesia’s socio-economic landscape, empowering overseas workers with the skills, protection, and opportunities required to compete internationally.
