Jakarta, 8 September 2023 – With a momentum of the 43rd ASEAN Summit and the ASEAN-Indo-Pacific Forum (AIPF) this week, think tank and research institute agency Indonesian Business Council (IBC) is pushing for formulation of competitive and business-friendly policies for business sectors. IBC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sofyan Djalil said this is critical to achieve the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045 and ASEAN 2045.

“A country becomes advanced because of good policies. A good policy for the business sector is one that is business friendly and minimize distortion. Within this policy framework, business and industry become more competitive and boost economic growth with equity,” Sofyan stated in a press release in Jakarta, September 8 2023.

IBC is one of the community partners of the ASEAN-Indo-Pacific Forum and organize a dialogue themed “Passing the Torch for ASEAN-Indo-Pacific 2045″ with policy makers, state representatives of ASEAN and Indo-Pacific, as well as business leaders, academics, and media.

IBC, Sofyan explained, produces research and studies on business and industrial policies impacting Indonesia’s competitiveness. The research follows data and industry experience and is intended as policy recommendation to improve Indonesia’s competitiveness index in the global market.

IBC was founded in February 2023 and is an initiative of the public and private sectors in Indonesia. IBC conducts research and formulates policy recommendations on topics of economic growth, community empowerment, environmental sustainability, public and private collaboration, as well as collaboration between business actors, both at regional and global levels.

“IBC is supported by strong network of leaders in the business and industry sectors. The successful experience and good corporate practices of the business sectors will be the basis for our study so the recommendations are based on evidence and real work practices,” said Sofyan.

IBC is currently conducting research and studies on topics of carbon market activation and foreign exchange revenue of natural resources exports. IBC will invite input and best practices from the business sectors and expect to propose policy recommendations on the topics.

IBC Supervisory Board Arsjad Rasjid added IBC also intends to promote stronger public-private collaboration. “There is an urgent need for Indonesia to be more competitive in the global economy and stronger public-private collaboration is critical to achieve that,” he said. Arsjad encourages every stakeholder to collaborate with IBC to make this happen.

Furthermore, in the context of ASEAN – Indo-Pacific, IBC also emphasized its commitment to strengthening collaboration between stakeholders in the ASEAN and Indo-Pacific regions by contributing to the implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).
