IBC Hosts Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce Delegation

IBC's Chief Executive Officer, Sofyan Djalil, and Chief Operating Officer, William Sabandar, together with senior leadership and IBC members, received Chief Executive Officer Patrick Yeung and a delegation from the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) at IBC's office in Jakarta on 25 September 2026. The courtesy visit introduced the two business communities to each other and opened the way for closer engagement.

Founded in 1861, HKGCC is Hong Kong's oldest business chamber. It has long represented the city's business community in policy discussions with government and connected its members with markets across Asia. The delegation included business leaders from construction, apparel, and advisory firms, while IBC was joined by Chief Economist Denni Purbasari and members from Meratus Lines, Bain & Company Indonesia, Bukalapak (Emtek), Sinar Mas, and Pakuwon.

After William introduced IBC's membership, mandate, and work, HKGCC briefed participants on its ASEAN mission and its Asian Cities Internationality Index. Commissioned from Ipsos and now in its second edition, the index measures how 11 Asian cities, Jakarta among them, engage with global markets across seven dimensions, from business and economy to government and legal systems.

Both sides share a business-led approach to policy advocacy and constructive engagement with government, which gives them a sound basis for cooperation. In the open discussion, IBC members asked the delegation about business opportunities in Hong Kong.

IBC also introduced the Indonesia Economic Summit 2027, scheduled for April in Jakarta. Looking ahead, IBC sees the summit as a platform to bring HKGCC members together with Indonesian business and government leaders and to identify concrete opportunities for trade and investment between Indonesia and Hong Kong.
